This is a great breakfast place, but try it for lunch. I had the 1/2 soup and sandwich and it was great. The menu is pretty diverse for a small local restaurant. I will keep coming back for sure.

This is a quaint cozy French themed restaurant with a large menu. The food is made from scratch and is quite satisfying. My husband had the meat loaf and mashed potatoes with a side of fresh fruit. I had the chicken bow tie pasta which was huge and delicious. I will have leftovers for days. The server was friendly and accommodating. They have BYOB and charge a $2 bottle handling fee. The place is situated in a strip mall with lots of parking and the establishment including the bathrooms are pristine. We will be back.

I have to say I'm truly disappointed. After hearing so many great things and seeing it was on Chicagos best, I guess I was asking too much from the establishment to deliver decent food. I was able to dismiss the foul smell walking in, but I couldn't dismiss the bad taste in my mouth. Save your money people!! I'd rather use the money I spent on a nicer restaurant.

My Daughter and I had chicken soup there that wasn't hot! That should have been the first clue to LEAVE... I found a small stick in my Blt and the sandwich was terrible! My daughter didn't like her chicken sandwich said it didn't taste right.i come from a family of 6 kids and don't believe in wasting food so I peeked out the chicken from her half finished lunch,,, I ate it and we both got sick!!! Never to go back and all my friends have heard about it also!!!

Avoid the chains and give this place a try. I have a feeling you will be satisfied. I know I was. Went here to try someplace different for breakfast. It is smaller sized restaurant but very clean and nicely decorated. Oh and by the way, the food is really good too. I enjoyed the Gaston Omelette - avocado, bacon and cheese! It was very good. The coffee was very goodIf you want cheap go get McDonalds crap If you want a good breakfast at a fair price with friendly hospitable service, give this place a try.

I think some of these reviews for this place are a little overcritical. I got the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and added a cup of soup and a drink to it. The sandwich included potato salad and a pickle. It was $12 total everything was really good. Yes this is more than a fast food lunch place, but if you want a $5 meal, go to Subway and chance it with their mystery meat.

We have been coming to Cafe Gaston for years but will never come here again. Two completely ridiculous things happened when we last ate here 1) we had signed up for the coupons via text and planned to use it for our meal. The waitress brought us our check when we were finished eating and I brought it to the front counter where I was greeted by the manager/owner?. I let him know that we had wanted to use a 10% off coupon but that the waitress had just printed the check before we could let her know we had one. He responded that the coupon would only take off $3.60 from our bill and that he would have to void the transaction in order to apply the coupon. He THEN SAID that he would charge me $1.50 for that voided transaction because he has to pay for credit card transactions, so therefore he let me know I would only be saving $2.10. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! 2) cafe gaston is byob so we brought our own beer asking the waitress if it was still byob because we hadn't been here in a while. She confirmed it was, and two of us each had one beer. We received the bill to find they had charged us $3.50 per person for a corkage fee. In the past it had been $1. We took the bill to the manager/owner(unsure) and he replied that over in the corner there was a sign stating that the corkage fees were $3.50 and he also said he legally was not allowed to let us open beers but that he was making an exception. We replied that we would have never had the beers had we known we would be charging that much for a corkage fee. He pretty much made it out to be SOL and replied that he has a $3000 annual fee that he has to pay to the village for his byob liquor license. SERIOUSLY?! Instead of trying to please his customers this joker was trying to defend himself and continued throwing out numbers in our faces. This guy needs to go and if he is infact the owner I really can't see this place being around much longer! Ridiculous how everything was handled!!!!!!

We went there for breakfast on Sunday morning. Very friendly staff that never rushed us out & let us push some tables together for our big group. As for the food, my breakfast was average at best. I ordered the french toast with a side of bacon. Bacon was very very crispy, way overdone. I know some like their bacon crispy & some like it floppy. This bacon shattered when I bit into it. The french toast was fine, but the ultimate breakfast sin was perpetrated upon my food; fake maple syrup! I was issued packets of Mrs. Butterworths! Perhaps I misinterpreted this place. I had the impression that it was trying to be something alittle better than your average giant Sunday morning breakfast spot. But fake maple syrup?!? That's downright McDonald's of them. It's too bad because I really wanted to like this place. I'm always looking to patronize a locally owned individual place like this one. Next time I'm in the area at breakfast time, I'll sadly be looking for another option.

Do yourself a favor, and get off the chain-gang highway that LaGrange Road has become, and find your way to this cute little cafe situated in a strip plaza in this mainly office/medical building area. You won't regret the slight detour. We came here for an early lunch, just missing the office lunch crowd that was here by the time we left. A nice dining room, sparsely decorated, but with a lot of natural light coming in from the front windows. You look at the flat-screened menu boards to choose your food, place your order at the front counter, sit, and your server brings the food out to you. (Don't sit at the table directly in front of the menu boards, unless you enjoy eating with someones ass in your face, as they look at the menu. My fault- totally.) I started with an order of the baked French onion soup. Now this is one of my favorite soups, and has been the deal breaker at many a restaurants I have ordered it at. This place has it nailed! A flavorful but yet not too salty broth, caramelized onions, the perfect amount of cheese, baked to slightly browned perfection! Really, I could have ordered another bowl and called it a day, but I also had the sandwich and side of the day. Truthfully, I was so enamored by the soup, that I'm really not sure what that sandwich consisted of. It must have been good though, since I ate the whole thing without complaint. I also enjoyed the side of potato salad. It had an all white color, and a very smooth consistency. This place is not exactly around the corner from me, but I know I will be back to try the four cheese and ham French pastry pie, and the Cajun chicken pasta dish also on the menu.

Been going to Cafe Gaston's for over 15 years. The food is of a consistently high quality. It is not a fast food kind of place with entree's partially cooked and sitting under a heating lamp. Rather, everything is fresh and cooked to order. There is no bar, but you can BYOB. There is nothing fancy about the seating. My favorite is the chicken bow tie, it is consistently very good. The blackened catfish is also good. Actually, everything my family has had there has been very good. For the food you receive, I believe it is a very good value. The owner/chef is also very friendly. If you want good food at reasonable prices, the place might just be for you.

Do not waste your money here. Terribly overpriced for terrible food. I ate a chickn sandwich..which was ok but it came with.mashed.potatoes that appeared and tasted like the school cafeteria. My two yr old had the kids pasta which was $7 and was a plate large enough for me. Our bill for my daughter and I was 20..too much for crappy food. My friend had chicken bowtie pasta. The noodles were overcooked..like my daughters..and it had no flavor. She also had the pumpkin.soup.which.she ate..I thought it was tasteless. And her meal was $17. So after spending $40 for crappy lunch..we decided not to return. I work at a.steakhouse in oak brook and parties come in for lunch with 2 people and get a quality meal for 25 to 35 bucks. Which is where we shouldve gone.

It's OK. I probably won't make the drive up from Roselle again just to go there, but might stop by if in that neck of the woods. Cafe style seating and service at full-service restaurant prices. The food was ok. I got the shrimp bow tie pasta because I saw it on Chicago's Best TV show. I was disappointed because the shrimp was overcooked. The artichoke, tomato, spinach, lemon cream sauce was interesting though, lots of flavor. I just personally think there was 1 too many strong flavors. The bread (sticks) were not great which was disappointing from a French cafe . Tasted more like 1/2 bread, 1/2 biscuit and came out a few moments after our dinners. My companion got the Beef Bourguignon (which I don't like anyway but) he said it was great. The beef was very tender, I just don't personally like brown wine based sauces. Their "red sauce" on the kid's pasta was ok. Reminded me of one I've had from a jar but with fresher tomatoes but maybe that's just for the kids pastas. Anyway if I do find myself out there to try it again I'll try something else and see if I'm more impressed.

Unpleasant from the first minute until the last. The service was snotty and rude, at one point the waitress was mouthing off at me about where the menus are while I was attempting to say I already knew that and was ready to order. After bringing the food out we received a response that you would expect from a bratty, spoiled, 16 year old girl who's daddy just told her she can't borrow the car.... The food was laughable. I ordered the grilled cheese for my children to share, off of the adult menu, it was a joke. Do you call bread out of a toaster "grilled"?? At cafe gaston they do. Two pieces of toasted white bread with American cheese, not melted, thrown inside. My polenta, while prepared appropriately, was paired with a bland, metallic reminiscent tomato sauce and gooey, ugly, mushrooms (they were definitely from a can). We sat outside, and while it was a pleasant day you are SO close to those dining around you that it's frustrating trying to carry your own conversation. However, I am glad we were not sitting inside. The interior had less charm and atmosphere than a 24 hour Greek diner with lemon rice soup and waffles as their daily specials. The location is also odd, in a strip mall that feels more like you're dining outside of your doctors office. My opinion is that this place thrives on wannabes driving Audis and Cadillacs that they can't afford and Ralph Lauren polos from the goodwill. If you're looking for a GOOD joke go to the comedy club as forget about this place.
We found this place doing a quick search online, and we were so happy to see that a cute little French cafe was within minutes. The website (on our phones, mind you) showed such cute pictures of this place that we immediately fell in love. Now, this place looks nothing like the pictures we saw on our phones. Regardless, it has a nice outside patio, very roomy, plants/flowers all over. Pretty nice. Hhmmmm...... Well, the only thing French about this place is the name and that the word croissant is listed in the menu. Here is our disappointment: we were expecting a cafe, and we got a diner (there's nothing wrong with that if you want to eat at a diner). We decided to stay to try it out. We placed our order and got a table. The coffee was good but served in paper cups! For dining in??? (Sigh) We also tried the croissants, I honestly think these were from Costco or Sam's Club. Just awful! We didn't feel like trying anything else. This is an American diner, not a French cafe (there's nothing French about it). Oh, the cute little pictures we saw online and thought they were the actual cafe, they were in fact pictures of the photographs they have hanging in the restaurant.

Cafe Gaston has fallen far from its heyday, when it was still owned & operated by Chef Gaston & exuded a French flair. Today's staff is quite unpleasant & the environment is anything but a carefree European-style bistro. Worst of all, the taste & the quality of the food that Gaston spent so much time perfecting have greatly declined. Just change the name already.

Good food that is made fresh to order. The salads are huge and the sesame ginger dressing divine. The salad with the pears, blue cheese and walnuts is the best. One of the things I ordered last at Cafe Gaston was the polenta cakes with crushed tomato sauce. The polenta was crispy cooked perfectly and the tomato sauce was sweet and tangy. My husband had the chicken with orange basil sauce and it was cooked perfectly with a citrusy orange/bright fresh basil taste. When we were done we thanked the humble guy behind the counter that cooked these great dishes. The decor is newly redone and it is simple, two open rooms with cafe tables and chairs, no booths. Located at the end of a strip mall. It is not a fancy dinner place in decor, but the food quality reaches far above most restaurants in Orland and a relaxing change from the chain restaurants. It's a great place to take yourself to lunch and just enjoy the moment. I did have Gaston's cater a dinner event because I didn't want to go "Chicken Beef and Sausage in tins" and we got really delicious memorable food.

Sooooooo, went to this cute little local restaurant expecting a nice frenchy breakfast. Not so much. To be fair, the coffee was FAB. The Cafe Gaston special, while sounding phenomenal on the menu (deliciousness in print), was terrible. The omelet had beautiful fresh ingredients--including lovely avocado, a fave of mine--but the egg portion was overcooked to the point of representing rubber. Goodyear would be proud. I think I could have bounced it off the wall.

I have catered two events from Cafe Gaston over the last four years. Both occasions were a complete success due to the amazing platters we ordered. The quality of the food raised the level of the event from being a house party to a formal event. We are extremely pleased and will return for our next event!

Met a date here for lunch. The website was a bit deceiving showing the pictures of what apparently is a real French cafe, but this is basically a diner - no table service (other than bringing your food to you). That upset me a little bit, but my date was OK with it, so we stayed. It's definitely not French food, but the food we had was pretty good (she had a tasty creamy chicken-pasta dish and I had the crab cakes). The kitchen is very open to the diners, which I like. You order food, they take your name, your soda is serve-yourself at their fountain and then they bring you your food. I had the baked French Onion soup and it was not good. Cheese was great, but the broth needed a serious amp up in flavor. I'd try this place for breakfast if in the area, but I'll skip on lunch or dinner again. However, while I was waiting for her to arrive, 4 or 5 people came in to pick-up takeout orders. If I lived in the area, I'd probably do that for lunch or dinner reasonably often.

If decor and ambiance are a "major" part of your dining experience, this may not be the place for you. However, if you like good food at fair prices, this is your place. Don't be scared; this place is clean, it is just sparsely decorated. Even though it offers a nice looking breakfast menu, I just had dinner here several times. Cafe Gaston offers soups, sandwiches, and a variety of dinner options, including daily specials. The lemon caper orange roughy is very tasty, as is the meat loaf. Both come with excellent tasting mashed potatoes, and a veggie of the day. The dinner selections are a bit different from the standard commercial places, which is nice, since Orland is smothered by commercial eateries. Located just east of 145th and LaGrange road in Orland Park, it is kind of off the beaten path. It sits in a strip mall, near the Orland Park mall. So if you are shopping near the Orland mall, I suggest trying this place for something different that taste homemade good. P.S. it is BYOB.

This is one of my favorite breakfast places in the south suburbs. The other day, I had breakfast here for the ump-teenth time with my parental units. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a croissant. It was dee-lish - although it would have been nice to have something on the side like fruit or something. I guess that's extra. Anyway, it's a nice laid back place with decent food. The staff is friendly and service is pretty quick. Definitely worth a visit if you're ever out in the 'burbs.

After years of driving past this place, a friend and I met up for lunch. For not being located on a main street, there sure were plenty of customers! The ambiance is no nonsense, no frills, but clean and welcoming. I had the chicken salad sandwich with chips and my friend had a chicken wrap with potato salad. Both our sandwiches were large. The chicken salad was okay...too much onion and mayo for my liking. We sat outside on a warm sunny day, which was a nice change of pace and makes you feel like you are not in Orland Park, but some cutesy cafe in the city. Other customers around us ordered their breakfast items, which looked quite good. I will definitely be back and encourage others to dine here!

I had breakfast here with my roommate a couple weeks ago. It was a really nice morning, so we were able to sit outside and the food was brought out to us. We each had the eggs, potatoes, and toast. My wheat toast was fine. My roommate felt there was something weird about the white toast. The eggs were good, as were the potatoes. I prefer hash browns but these potatoes were fine (once I got over the disappointment of no hash browns). It's a really cute little place. I'll have to try the lunch or dinner sometime.

When there is a chain restaurant at every corner, Cafe Gaston is a nice change of pace. On my last visit, I ordered the turkey club which included fresh cut turkey... as in from a roast turkey, not the tube at the deli. The sandwich was completely amazing! Whenever I visit my mom in Orland, Cafe Gaston is now a necessary stop! Everything I've had here is really amazing. It is kind of a little secret tucked away on John Humphrey drive so you have to be looking for it before you find it. I would highly, highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious lunch or dinner!

Last visit got chicken carbonera - portion was amazing and it was very good. Call ahead and place your order as service was slow with walk-in. Use a coupon for 1/2 off a lunch/dinner or 10% off catering: cafegaston.com/index.php…

A relief in a So.Suburban world of same old same old. Tucked off the main drag in a mall heavy neighborhood. I never feel rushed or pressured to move on (daily papers provided, self serve fountain drinks with refills). French without the petite portions. I would prefer less pasta and more nutritional substance, but specials are more likely to be healthy.

Café Gaston - 3 Stars: a nice find in Orland Park. This restaurant has gone through many ownership iterations since the original chef from a downtown Chicago hotel established his namesake establishment of food out in the south suburbs. Don't know who owns it now, but this little restaurant (maybe 8 or 10 tables) retains much of the nice selection started by the founder. Breakfast is particularly good, and they have scones brought in from an outside vendor that are delicious. The small outdoor patio (maybe 5 tables) is nice also. Wonderful place for takeout as you return home from work off the Metra train.

Just as many of the other reviewers noted...it is OK. The service was unfriendly and the food was just OK. Was hoping for something better.

Not bad, not special, staff is cool.

Great breakfast, quick for lunch and the dinner is also good. Prices are reasonable, but best of all Fresh Ingreadents.

I love this little place! I work very nearby, so I stop in for drinks and snacks frequently. i love that they have an outdoor seating area! Can't wait to stop in for a full meal soon.

Great prices, great food, great place in general. Could use a little more feeel put into the decorating, but i loved the beef bourginon and chicken bowtie
